Los Angeles Marathon Pledge Drive
Since 1995, our environmental youth education program Discover Your World has benefited tremendously from the support Hostelling International USA (HI-USA) receives from our friends in this annual fundraiser.
In 2008, HI-USA is launching a Water Science Program to address environmental and water conservation issues. We are also continuing the successful Cultural Kitchen Program, a cultural immersion program that offers Girl Scouts an opportunity to explore the culture of another country without leaving ours. The Cultural Kitchen Program has been so successful (having met current California Education Content Standards) it is expanding to include LAUSD schools!
So why is the Marathon such an important event for us? Well, one hundred percent of the funds raised go to support HI-USA’s educational programs. These programs teach relevant cultural and environmental lessons to students from all over the Los Angeles area. They provide positive life changing experiences for students, many of whom come from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. It honors and truly meets our mission "to help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling."
