The City of Los Angeles Marathon Fundraiser - May 25, 2009!
HI-USA, LA Council is an “Official Charity” of the 2009 LA Marathon.
The funds raised go to support HI-USA’s
educational programs, such as our Discover Your World, Cultural Kitchen, and Marine Science programs, as well as our World Travel 101 Seminars. If you would like to help us in our efforts,
there are four ways to do so:
Contact John Estrada at john.estrada@lahostels.org or call (310) 393-6263
x25.
HI-USA fundraises with a pledge-drive that rewards participants with a chance to win great prizes through an Opportunity Drawing. Our 2009 goal is to raise $10,000 to support Los Angeles Council of HI-USA Educational Program. All donations are tax-deductible!
Rail Europe has donated two First Class 15-day Eurail Flexipasses as the Grand Prize for the drawing (a $2100 value), what a great prize for someone planning a trip to Europe in 2009 on a budget. In addition to the rail passes we are busy collecting other great prizes for the drawing and will update the list as prizes are added.
Here’s how the drawing works. For every ten dollars donated, or raised by a pledge gatherer, a ticket is issued. For example, if someone donates $20, they will have two tickets issued in their name. Pledge gathers have an extra opportunity to earn tickets as they receive one ticket for every $10 in pledges they raise. If you collect $100 in pledges you will have 10 tickets issued in your name.
Since 1995, HI-USA has participated in the “Official Charities Program” of the City of Los Angeles Marathon to help support our educational youth programs. Our Discover Your World has benefited tremendously from the support we receive from our friends in this annual fundraiser. The Council has expanded our educational programming with the Cultural Kitchen Program, a cultural immersion program that offers Girl Scouts and school groups an opportunity to explore the culture of another country without leaving our own. For school groups the Cultural Kitchen Program offers 12 hours of California Education Content Standards curriculum. In addition, the Los Angeles Council also partners with the LAUSD on Marine Science and Clean Water Programs which are designed to engage students in field science activities by getting them out of the classroom and into their environment.
The Los Angeles Council is a recognized leader in travel education with its World Travel 101 Seminars which are geared for new travelers heading abroad for the first time. Throughout the years HI-USA has helped a countless number of Angelenos get their start as world travelers at one of our many travel workshops.
All of these HI-USA programs are tremendously benefited by your donations and support. Contact Mike Masten at mike@lahostels.org or call him at 310-393-6263 for pledge sheets or more information on this fundraising event.
Please ask your family, friends and neighbors to pledge $10, $20 or more. Your efforts will help us reach our $10,000 goal and perhaps you will be one of our big winners in the Opportunity Drawing!
Whether you are a Los Angeles Marathon vet, or this is your first time running
thanks to that certain special New Year’s resolution, HI-USA would love
to have you lead our pack!
Is the thought of a marathon a little too daunting? We are especially looking for people to run or walk the 5K (3.1 mile) event!
To further encourage those participating in the LA Marathon races with HI-USA, we are offering fundraising goals and incentives to reimburse our athletes up to the full cost of their registration fee. Call our LA Council office at 310-393-3413 for more details.
