The City of Los Angeles Marathon Fundraiser - March 2, 2008!

We're an “Official Charity” for the City of Los Angeles Marathon XIII. One hundred percent of the funds raised go to support HI-USA’s educational programs. If you would like to help us in our efforts, there are four ways to do so:

Contact Erin Hamant at erin@lahostels.org or call (310) 393-6263 x28.

Fundraiser Details: Pledge-Drive

VolunteersHI-USA fundraises with a pledge-drive that rewards participants with a chance to win great prizes through an Opportunity Drawing held in conjunction with the fundraiser. Our 2008 goal is to raise $10,000. All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of the funds will be used for scholarships for schools lacking the resources to participate in our educational programs.

In return for your hard work, and thanks to our generous sponsors, we are holding an Opportunity Drawing on March 15th with great prizes. To participate, simply collect pledges or make a pledge yourself. For every $10 donated, a ticket is given to both the pledge-raiser and the pledge-donor (unless they are the same person, in which case, only one ticket will be issued). Rail Europe has donated a pair of First Class 15-Day Eurail Global FlexiPasses, valued at $1972, as the drawing’s Grand Prize. Other prizes include a weekend trip to the Pala Resort Casino & Spa, Dodgers tickets, gift certificates to great restaurants, tickets to amusement parks and more. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to help us serve the children of our community.

Please ask your family, friends and neighbors to contribute to our $10,000 goal. All pledge sheets and funds are due in our office by March 14th at 5:00 p.m. to be eligible for the Opportunity Drawing.

Run, Bike or Walk for HI-USA:

UrsulaWhether you’re a Los Angeles Marathon vet or your first time running thanks to that certain special New Year’s resolution, HI-USA would love to have you lead our pack!

Since 1995, HI-USA has been an annual participant in the “Official Charities Program” for the Marathon. HOur educational youth program Discover Your World has benefited tremendously from the support we receive from our friends in this annual fundraiser. In 2008, we are launching a Water Science Program to address environmental and water conservation issues. We are also continuing our successful Cultural Kitchen Program, a cultural immersion program that offers Girl Scouts an opportunity to explore the culture of another country without leaving ours. The Cultural Kitchen Program has been so successful (having met current California Education Content Standards) it is expanding to include LAUSD schools!

If you are planning to run, bike or walk in the City of Los Angeles Marathon, please consider doing so in the name of HI-USA. Contact Erin Hamant at erin@lahostels.org or call (310) 393-6263 x28 for more information.

Volunteer Details:

If you have the extra time, please volunteer to join HI-USA on Sunday, March 2nd, from 8 a.m. to noon. We’ll be at Mile 5 in West Los Angeles to cheer on our runners, Ursula Krummel, Jayme Leslie, and Aimee Wyatt as well as the thousands of other the athletes participating in this year’s event. The first 100 volunteers to sign in will receive LA Marathon T-Shirts and goodie bags, and there will be additional opportunities to win great prizes in a special volunteers drawing.

Contact Erin Hamant at erin@lahostels.org or call (310) 393-6263 x28 for more information.

We hope to hear from you soon!

Good Work
