Active LA Seniors

Physical activity helps burn more calories and reduces appetite which combined with good nutrition helps you to maintain a healthy weight. Regardless of your waist size, did you know that even moderate levels of Physical Activity have additional benefits that lead to better quality of life? These include:

  • Lower rates of chronic disease such as Type II diabetes,
heart disease, strokes and some cancers

  • Less stress

  • More positive feelings

  • More energy

Enjoy better health today by following these recommendations:

  • Get at least 30-60 minutes of moderate physical activity everyday*.
    W
alking, swimming, biking, dancing, or gardening are good starts.

  • Watch less television

  • Drink less soda and fruit drinks (very high in sugar/calories)

  • Eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day.  Start now.

Help yourself today by getting into better health and promote policy changes, programs and initiatives that reverse the trend toward sedentary lifestyles which cause high stress levels and weight gain leading to higher levels of chronic disease and cancer. L.A. residents have gained 44 million pounds.** Let's reverse the trend.

Find your BMI and see how you measure up.  Learn about more ways to encourage activity for your family, students, workplace, and more!

As well as making healthy changes to your own lifestyle, help your community and get involved with events and resources related to increasing physical activity. See conference notes  from the May 23rd, 2006 Built Environment and Public Health Conference.
